My favorite book Conventions

Updated: Jan 23, 2021

Waxing nostalgic...

In these Covid 19 times it's sometimes hard to remember how things were just, literally, a year ago.

After surviving 2020, we had high hopes for 2021, but with the rate things are rolling out, I don't know if we'll ever get back to our old way of life. Book conventions may never be the same again. I remember rolling into a Romantic Times convention and being wowed by the scope of the operation. It accommodated thousands of people. Literally. There was entertainment, food, a knowledge track for authors. It was one of the most amazing conventions I've ever been to.

And they did it every year! New Orleans, Kansas City, Chicago, LA, Dallas- I met readers I loved and authors I admired. Developed long-lasting friendships. And LEARNED like crazy! A lot of the programs from the early years were targeted more toward traditional authors, but Indies absorbed it just as well. Lol

I never had a chance to attend an RWA convention, but I hear they were even more over the top and fun!

I would love for them to bring the RT convention back, though I know it won't happen. It was such a good place to meet readers and hang out with our fellow authors. Writing is a solitary profession, and it's nice to get out and connect sometimes.

As we move into 2021, we're going to have to change the way we do things. Will we ever be able to have a convention or a meet-and-greet like we used to? I don't know. I loved hugging and connecting to my readers, and I was just telling my husband that I worry about society if we can't get back to being tactile. A simple hug goes a long way for some people.

Did you have favorite conventions you attended?
