Though I’m a little late posting it, Embattled Home, Chad and Lora’s book, is LIVE now!
“Okay,” he said softly, stroking her hair back behind her ears. “But let’s start with baby steps.” He took a step closer. “Will you let me give you a hug?”
Just the thought of his arms around her set off a war inside her stomach. Yes, she wanted to feel the security of not being alone. She wanted to burrow into his spicy scent and block out the world. But the absolute spike of terror the thought of being restrained set off was almost debilitating. Oxygen became sparse in her lungs and she gulped in air.
But wait. This is Chad, she told herself again. Sexy Chad that wanted her more than anyone else she’d ever seen.
Straightening her spine, she nodded.
Chad lifted his arms around her and pulled her in against his chest. Lora fought not to struggle and focused on his collarbone. Inhaling the scent of his skin, she tried to count down from one hundred. But as the weight of his arms settled around her neck, she tensed. Chad immediately eased the pressure and she was able to hold herself together.
Lora felt like she was dancing on the edge of a cliff, daring the wind to push her over, but she knew she needed to do this. She wanted to do this.
Chad pulled back and cupped her face, pressing a kiss to her lips. Lora frowned as he stepped away.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
Chad winked at her and crossed to the bed. He nodded his head to the other side. “I want you to lay down on the bed. I am going to lay down beside you and we’re going to talk.”
“After the initial spike of fear, Lora could actually breathe, and just talking sounded like a good idea. She padded to the other side of the mattress as he removed his prosthetic, setting it to the side. Chad sat back and arranged the bedding so that they slid under the sheet. They were both still completely dressed as they laid down shoulder to shoulder, her left side to his right.
“I will never judge you,” he whispered into the darkness, his words hitting her heart like a cannonball. “What was done to you should never happen to any woman. I know you feel like you need to make a stand against him, but I don’t want you to rush this. I plan on being here for the long haul, no matter what. Okay?”
She nodded against the pillow, wiping the tears from her temples. She laced her fingers in his and turned on her side to reach her other arm across his chest. There was no fear as she squeezed him.

His Marine training taught him that failure is never an option regardless of circumstances. That certainly applies to Chad’s need to stop Lost and Found’s deranged client from using the information he gathered to stalk and abuse his ex. Falling in love with the broken woman and her sweet daughter in the middle of rescuing them is definitely not the best timing. But it’s also inevitable. In Book 3 of this heart-warming military romance series, Chad will discover that protecting Lora is a much easier task than proving he’s the one man she can finally trust with her heart.
Weeks of no incriminating evidence should have clued him in sooner about who was the real victim. Now Chad Lowell is wracked with guilt after the woman he’s assigned to investigate is attacked by her abusive ex-husband right under his nose. Lora and her little girl are in incredible danger, and he vows to protect them at all costs, whether the angry and hurt woman wants him to or not. His Marine training makes the protecting part easy, but nothing he does seems to make Lora want to take a chance on him or his love.
Lora O’Neil left a life of abuse to make a new start for herself and her daughter. When her ex hires Lost and Found Investigative Service to track her down, she’s left reeling both physically and emotionally. The private detective that had been watching her for the past couple of months did finally come to her rescue, but does that mean she should now trust him to help her turn their lives around? The sexy former Marine makes her body feel things she thought she’d never feel for a man again, but she just can’t imagine what it would take for her to heal enough to ever say yes.
I was invited to be a part of an anthology a few months ago with an incredible group of authors. Gennita Low, Stephanie Tyler, Marliss Melton, Sharon Hamilton, Teresa Reasor, Delilah Devlin, Elle James and myself. The caveat being, the story had to be Navy SEAL related. Well, I generally write Marines. I have a couple of Navy men in the LNF group, but it wasn’t time for their stories yet. So I had to come up with a completely new character.
I’ve been wanting to write about a K9 for a long time and I thought this was the perfect time. I knew the heroine before I even wrote her name, and Flynn followed soon behind. The situation was something very dear to my heart.
I am an animal lover. If I could go back 20 years, I would have been a veterinarian. (And then a romance novelist! lol) Instead, I went into law enforcement, and I did enjoy it very much. I thought about being a K9 officer at the department, but at that time all the slots were full.
I can’t even believe I just wrote that…really. When we set out to put together the military box set, we planned to hit a list, but it’s one of those things that you talk about doing and then guard yourself against disappointment because you never expect it to happen.
Well, it happened.
Cat Johnson, Elle James, Delilah Devlin, Sharon Hamilton, Melissa Schroeder and I hit the USA TODAY at number 100, which is a bit of a feat in and of itself. The list carries the top 150 bestselling books in the country. We were in the top 100.
As a writer, an INDIE writer, this is so huge for me.
Thank you for all the congrats and well-wishes.
Now, back to writing!!!
Remember that secret project I couldn’t talk about? Well, I can now.
Uniform Desires is a fabulous military themed anthology ON PRE-ORDER NOW that will be releasing on Veteran’s Day, November 11th. Six wonderful authors have created brand new content for the anthology and I’m super excited for its release. Check it out. My book is titled Her Forever Hero, and may be the start of a new series, the Vail branch of Lost And Found. Here’s the blurb-
Kendall Herrington is drawn to her handsome new security guard, prosthetic hand and all. The man is totally wrong for her, but on a lonely Christmas night, in a wine-laden effort to get him out of her system, she gives into her body’s demands. She regrets her actions almost immediately and tries to distance herself.
Former Marine Grafton Parks knows Kendall Herrington is pregnant, she’s just too stubborn to admit it to herself. But the luscious woman better come to her senses soon, because the board won’t allow an unwed, pregnant female to run the multi-billion dollar Herrington Limited. Even if she is the boss’s daughter.
As they struggle to come to terms with each other, an unexpected danger threatens their very lives. Will they survive long enough for him to be…Her Forever Hero?

All of these are pretty firm, but more may be added at some point.
As for BOOKS…
Chad’s book is due as soon as I can get it out. I’m going to shoot for spring or before. We’ll see how the words go.
I also still have a contemporary western to release that only needs an ending.
Preston’s book is already pushing at my brain, so I hope to get through Chad’s book as quickly as I can.
Things pop up so please be patient! I’m writing just as fast as I can!
July started with a bang for me, no pun intended. I released Zeke and Ember’s story, Embattled Minds, and it was an immediate best-seller. Actually, a month down the road it is still on several lists, including military and police procedurals. I can not tell you how thrilling it is to hit lists like that. And readers and reviewers are loving it. I just received a blue-ribbon endorsement from Romance Junkies reviews.
“After reading this book, I am thoroughly convinced that it is one of the all-time top series I have ever experienced. Five ribbons just doesn’t do this book justice, it is well worth 10 ribbons because it is a perfect romance!”
Thank you Suzie!
I went to Fandom Dest in Louisville Ky last week, and it was fascinating. Though the literary track was lacking and a little offensive, the sci-fi fan part of it was pretty cool. Yes, I’m a geek at heart. Grew up watching Star Trek and enjoy the series even now, so it was a real treat to see William Shatner speak. He was very articulate and gracious, even though a couple of the audience members were testing his patience.
I also saw the incredibly luscious Jason Mamoa, and can I say how gorgeous he is in person? Literally, he took his toboggan off at the Q & A, and people sighed. Loudly. Felt a little bad for the guy, because he couldn’t go anywhere without people trying to latch on. Yes, I admit, I latched on. BUT, I paid $40 to do it. The actors charged for the pleasure of being in a picture with them, ranging from $100 for a Gene Simmons pic ($500 to sign a guitar!) down to $20 or $30 for smaller actors. I think everybody charged.
Saw a glimpse of Stan Lee in a Q&A, Michael Rooker, Norman Reedus, Alan Tudyk, Lew Temple, Adrian Paul, Butch Patrick and several others.
I’m currently writing my ass off for a secret project I should be able to talk about more later this month. I’m also working on Chad’s book, due out in December-ish.
Also, I paid my fee to attend Arizona Dreamin’ as one of it’s featured authors in May. Here’s a link to check it out. If you’re going to be in the area, let me know and we’ll see about getting together!
Happy reading Peeps!
